We deliver Bento packed with lots of laughter.
It's called Rakugo.
"Bento Rakugo's comic storytelling will keep you laughing."
Rakugo is a traditional Japanese comic storytelling where a performer sits on zabuton, which is a Japanese cushion, and tells a comic story using a Japanese fan: sensu, and a Japanese towel: tenugui. It has been one of the most popular Japanese traditional theatre forms along with Kabuki and Bunraku.
Bento Rakugo is a dynamic group whose mission is to honor traditional Rakugo and also bring a modern twist to it. We have been performing at theatres, conventions, and colleges to bring laughter by delivering our Rakugo Bento. Following traditional Rakugo Yose style in Japan, a show contains a couple of Rakugo stories and an Iromono variety act performance, which varies from a lion dance to Japanese traditional juggling.
Performance credits include Honolulu Festival, the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Kapiolani Community College, Farrington High School, Kahala Nui Retirement Home, Public Libraries at Lanai, Molokai, Big Island and all over Oahu and more. Our show is very flexible and adaptable to any size stage or space, varying from audiences of 20 to 800.
